Body posture affects confidence in your own thoughts, study finds
Ohio State University study: “Sitting up straight in your chair isn’t just good for your posture, it also gives you more confidence in your own thoughts, according to a new study.”(Oct.5,2009)
“The results show how our body posture can affect not only what others think about us, but also how we think about ourselves, said Richard Petty, co-author of the study and professor of psychology at Ohio State University. People assume their confidence is coming from their own thoughts. They don’t realize their posture is affecting how much they believe in what they’re thinking.”
I believe that posture is also a reflection of how a person feels about their self. No doubt posture can change how others view you, but how you view yourself as well. While good posture can boost how you look and act, it also gives a glimpse of how you think about yourself.
So if sitting up straight and standing straight is good for your mental attitude and the people around you, it also promotes more confidence in who you are.
Why does it hurt to sit up straight? Because the postural muscles that hold us in that position aren’t use to doing it much. Make it a habit, watch yourself, be aware of how you hold yourself and it will become natural for you, and get adjusted by a great Chiropractor.
